Canmore Cave tours

Join us on a Natural History tour of DISCOVERY into Rat's Nest Cave; a wild natural cave with no artificial lights, boardwalks or handrails under GROTTO MOUNTAIN near CANMORE, ALBERTA, CANADA.

The adventure begins with a 30 minute hike to the cave entrance. Experienced cave guides take you into this exciting underground world - etched and sculptured over hundreds of thousands of years by ancient glacial melt water - through twisting passages and chambers of stalactites & stalagmites, animal bones and fossils. Rat's Nest Cave is a constant 5°C (41°F) all year.

Canmore Caverns Ltd. offers the following cave tours into Rat's Nest Cave: the Adventure Tour (6 hours) - climb & traverse both large and narrow passages plus Laundry Chute and 18m (60 ft) rappel; the Explorer Tour (4.5 hours) - similar to Adventure tour but no rappel, or the Canyon to Cave Tour that includes the Explorer tour in the morning followed by an afternoon interpretive hike up Grotto Canyon to the Pictographs.

All caving equipment is provided. Participants should be reasonably fit, as caving is physically challenging, but no caving experience is necessary. Age restrictions apply for children.
